Dream Job
Fortunately, I have a job that I love. Unfortunately, I don’t get to do it as often as I’d like. The latest reason for clients not receiving therapy, “the economy.”
The other day I was talking to a friend and I realized that my dream job is still just a dream. Ideally, I would love to work in a setting with a bunch of healthcare providers who all come together to help people. My friend stated, “Greed and egos stand in the way.” I wonder???
In my dream job, there is plenty to go around... meaning everyone would be busy helping people to not only get well but to stay well. Once word got out, I think we would have more business than we could handle.
My Dream: “The Therapy House.” I picture a big old house that is warm and cozy, not sterile, isolating or unsettling. People are welcomed and cared for by the entire staff. The personnel include many therapists with countless specialties. Physicians, allopathic and holistic, are a part of the picture but they are not in charge. This is a shared venture. Everyone has a specialty and they contribute all that they know with each and every client. Meetings are held regularly to share insights on all cases so that the client gets exactly what they need. After-all, “we” are in the business of caring for people.
Awareness and movement classes, such as Feldenkrais ATM®, yoga, tai chi, are a part of the picture because I have found that without awareness and movement old patterns simply wait for an opportunity to return. Mental, emotional and spiritual support is also imperative.
Educating the public* is something I do regularly and I feel that is as much a part of the healing process as anything else. At "The Therapy House," staff members would do so through articles, books, workshops, speaking engagements. Sharing our expertise will go far... it may even change the medical model.
If this is a dream, call me a dreamer. I know that one day society will catch up with me and people will see the real benefit of being strong, healthy and responsible for themselves. When that day comes I will be there, ready, willing and able to help.
What’s your dream job? Put it out there and make it a reality. Until then keep on dreamin'. Be well... Nancy T.

Hi Nancy,
I love your vision! I also want to do something like that very much. I thought Robert Zieve, MD in town was trying to get something like that going. Margaret at One Root is a part of that group. You could ask her! Take care.... Sarah

Uhhh....that sounds spookily like what we're envisioning for Bisbee Chiropractic and Natural Health Center. We know we will need a new space in a couple of years, and we envisioned a historic home in the area with a few treatment rooms; the only difference is that we don't envision adding allopathic services into the mix/building, but are working to build relationships with health practitioners throughout the county.
Our thought of complementary services includes chiropractic, traditional naturopath, hypnotherapy, massage/polarity, nutrition counseling, exercise therapy, classes and workshops, cooking demonstrations, etc.
So, when are you moving?!

Hey Alisa, It's good to know that I am not alone in my thoughts of helping others in their healing. If you recall, I moved to be with you already, Prescott, and you moved away. I'll have to think about a Bisbee move. Best wishes in your healing adventures. Be well.. Nancy T.

Your dream of a Therapy House sounds absolutely marvelous! What a supportive, healing environment that could be! I sure hope other providers respond to your idea and this could really come to pass.

Thanks T. I also wrote this blog for people to consider their "dream job." I know we all have them, it is a matter of making it a reality as you said. What's your "dream job"? L- NMT
